What is NLP, or Neuro Linguistic Programming, in relation to a Fear of Flying?

NLP recognises that your ability to think, including talking to yourself, and create pictures in your mind, plus the emotional state that you feel, for example fear, and your body, are all connected together as one system.

Simply this means that if you are able to change your thinking, then you are able to change your body’s responses to things.

For example, with flying, you may want to fly and be quite determined to take a trip. However, your body may try to stop you from going by making you feel unwell in some way.

NLP is all about dealing with your conscious mind, which logically may expect and argue that you can fly. Meanwhile your unconscious mind busies itself by restricting your physical body in some way, thereby possibly stopping you from flying.

Some people who have successfully flown for years may suddenly find that flying terrifies them.

And often people manage to fly with the help of light tranquillisers, rescue remedy, and alcohol. These are all short term solutions.
